Don Thomas

Contact Information:

Phone:  254-772-5909

Bio:

Don Thomas is the founder, president and CEO of SoftLight Development Inc., a company that offers state-of-the-art consultation, software design and systems solutions for health care organizations.

Thomas began his career as an engineer with DSC Communication in Richardson, Texas, specializing in switches and cross-connect.  While there, he was able to teach himself computer-programming skills, and after six months became a highly sought-after consultant for several Fortune 100-500 companies.  In 1993, he founded Innovation by Design, a consultancy and software development company that employed both his programming expertise and his professional background.

In 1996, after establishing a successful relationship with a health care organization, Thomas recognized the potential of servicing the health care industry.  Renaming the company SoftLight Development Inc., referring to its development of “software shining the light of innovation,” Thomas shifted the focus of the company away from Fortune 500 clientele to health care clients and practice management firms.

In 2001, Thomas steered the company toward a new concept called transactional services.  Instead of just designing and selling software for a one-time flat fee to its clients, SoftLight would design exceptional software, give it to the clients and charge them a smaller rate for each time it was accessed.  SoftLight would supplement its offering with “fanatical support” for its clients with comprehensive consultation and assistance as needed.

Thomas’s specialties include programming expertise that began before the advent of widespread computer usage, solutions development, process flow and efficiency, doctor relations and architectural development of applications.  He is a certified HIPAA security consultant.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology from DeVry University and a master’s degree in education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He lives in Flower Mound, Texas, with his wife and two daughters.
